The Joy of moving programme, delivered in partnership with Ferrero UK by 23 English Football League Club Community Trusts, engages thousands of young people across the country every year. According to research only 30% of boys and 25% of girls aged 5-7 meet the recommended quota of exercise each day. Such inactivity levels are leading to a variety of issues affecting both physical and mental health.

The Joy of moving programme is designed to help children develop their physical, cognitive and social skills in a fun and educational way. This is achieved through two national projects, the Move & Learn programme and the Joy of moving festivals that engage 70,000 young people nationwide each year.

Newport County AFC (NCAFC) representatives, including players, scholars, managers and the club mascot, engage with the programme by visiting partner schools. Pupils take part in fun and engaging sessions, which bring a whole new style of learning compared to their day to day lessons.

Tasks and challenges focus on family-based challenges, physical activity, balanced diets and active lifestyles, while developing skills in four key areas: physical fitness, motor coordination, cognitive function and life skills.
