Primary Schools

Since County in the Community became a registered charity, our work within primary schools has seen us engage with more than 5,000 youngsters from Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Islwyn, in a varied range of programmes. To find out more about what County in the Community offer to primary schools across Gwent, or how we could benefit a school in your area, please contact our School Sport Coordinator Dan Harvey

We Deliver

We go into primary schools to deliver:

  • PE, PPA & Extra-curricular activities as part of our Amber Education Programme.
  • PE, PSHE lessons and assemblies, Literacy & Extra-curricular sessions as part of our Premier League Primary Stars programme.
  • A Teacher Mentoring Programme aimed at developing teachers’ confidence and competence in delivering their own PE and School Sports sessions.
  • Healthy Living lessons as part of our Kinder +Sport Move and Learn project.

Premier League Primary Stars

Our PL Primary Stars programme offers a range of provision to primary schools right across Gwent. County in the Community spend a whole morning or whole afternoon session in partner schools, delivering PE, Teacher CPD, Wellbeing and PSHE workshops. This primary school provision engages pupils in KS1 and KS2 as well as being inclusive for pupils with additional learning needs.

Joy of Moving Programme

County in the Community, in partnership with EFL Trust and Ferrero UK deliver the Joy of Moving programme to thousands of school children in Gwent.
According to research only 30% of boys and 25% of girls aged 5-7 meet the recommended quota of exercise each day. Such inactivity levels are leading to a variety of issues affecting both physical and mental health.
The Joy of Moving programme is designed to help children develop their physical, cognitive and social skills in a fun and educational way. This is done through two national projects, Move & Learn programme and the Joy of Moving Festivals that engage 70,000 children nationwide each year.

Premier League Reading Stars

This is a 10-week literacy intervention programme designed to be delivered in schools with the aim of stimulating an interest in literacy in children aged between 9 and 13 who love football but lack motivation in reading.
