I am 55 years old and live in Caldicot, Monmouthshire. I have been married to Helen for 32 years and we have 3 children aged 28, 26 and 23. I work as an accountant and run my own practice, which is situated in Caldicot. I was educated at Caldicot Comprehensive School. I left school at 16 and worked in the hotel industry for 4 years in
various different roles, before joining the family business in Chepstow as a tyre fitter.
When the business closed, 6 years later, I became a delivery driver, driving vans and small Lorries, until, at the age of 33; I decided to study for a career in accountancy. I attended college and university on a part time basis for 8 years, in which time I gained a position with a national accountancy firm based in Newport. I stayed with the firm for 10 years before moving to a rival firm as a manager and eventually as a partner.
In 2011 I left and started my own accountancy practice, which now has 3 employees and a large, diverse client base. I have previously been a trustee of a charity, with Caldicot Citizens Advice Bureau, from 2002 until 2014. I am currently a trustee of a charity called Portskewett Recreational Hall and a trustee of a local community group, Portskewett and Sudbrook Sport and Leisure Group. I have also been involved with my local football team for 38 years, as a player, manager, committee member and chairman.
The skills I have picked up from the above organisations, my life skills as a husband and father and my skills attained in work, both as an employee, a boss and as an owner of a small business should hopefully stand me in good stead as a trustee of County in the Community.
