I was a Professional Footballer from 1988 to 2005, playing for a host of clubs that include Chelsea, Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Wolves, Leicester City, Leeds United and Wales throughout my career. Since my retirement in 2005, I have helped create several different businesses opportunities for myself and family, whilst also getting involved in charitable works whenever possible.
In 2004 I setup my own Design & Build house building company developing both houses and apartments, whilst at the same time helping my wife set up our children day care nursery.
In 2008 I was asked to begin writing a newspaper column for the South Wales Echo & Wales on Sunday, from which I have managed to develop a freelance media career for myself which now includes working for Media Wales, BBC and Sky Sports to name but a few.
I believe that as a result of my media work I was asked in 2010 if I would become an Ambassador for StreetGames, an organisation which tackles the lack of sporting opportunities for underprivileged kids, whilst also tackling social inequality and lack of inclusion for girls, ethnic minorities and those with disabilities in sport. I can proudly say that I agreed to join them and have continued to work with them.
In 2014 I graduated from the PFA’s Corporate Governance Course and since held a Non-Executive Director position on the board of Newport County AFC Football Club, whilst also sitting on the board of the theatre production company ‘It’s My Shout’. I also sat as a member of the StreetGames Task Force Group for South Wales set up in 2015, I have since resigned my position on the SGTFG to allow myself time to commit to County in the Community (CITC).
